-Individual Portfolio or Project Review
An extremely thorough review of your existing portfolio or project
-Daily Photo Reviews
Participants work directly with Jonathan nightly to learn how to identify your strongest photos from the day as well as how to improve shots you've taken using very minor corrections
-Customized Lessons
Prior to the workshop, Jonathan will ask for input from each participant on topics of interest and areas they wish to improve upon. This information is used to develop custom material for group discussions and short presentations.
-1 on 1 shooting time on the streets with Jonathan Jasberg
On most days Jonathan will pair up with someone for a full 3 hour session in the morning and a different person in the afternoon. He will work with them individually to improve all aspects of their photography.
-Detailed Arrival Guide
Arriving in a new country / city can be intimidating. Jonathan will provide you with a customized arrival guide that includes photos, directions, and details of arriving at the airport and getting a taxi / train to your accommodations, obtaining a sim card, etc., to make sure your arrival is a smooth as possible.
-Friendly non-competitive group environment where we all learn from each other
Group dynamic is very important to Jonathan, thus the group size is kept extremely small and personal.
This workshop is very intensive. In addition to having a lasting impact on your photography skills, it is a great chance to make quality friendships and connections with fellow photographers. Your Instructor
Jonathan has made numerous trips to Istanbul since 2012, often staying months at a time. He is very familiar with not only some of the best and most dynamic areas of the city to shot, but very familiar with the ferries, trains, etc. and how to get around quickly and efficiently on both the European and Asian sides of the city.
Schedule
May 27th - Welcome Dinner
We will have a casual group welcome dinner to get to know each other, chat about photography and the plan for the upcoming days of shooting.
*Cost of meals is paid individually and not included in tuition.
May 28th - June 1st
5 intensive days of street photography in the following daily format
- Group breakfast
- Morning shooting session ~3 hours
- Group lunch
- Afternoon shooting session ~3 hours
- Group or individual dinner
- Evening photo reviews ~ 2-3 hours
Dinners will be either taken as a group, smaller groups or individually based on the spontaneity and flow of the day. Jonathan will be in constant contact with the group on Whatsapp each day to make sure everyone is well informed.
Accommodations
Our hotel costs roughly $70 a night. It has a nice rooftop terrace where we will have breakfast and hold our evening review sessions with an amazing view of Galata tower, historic mosques, as well as the Bosphorus.
*Cost of accommodation, daily meals, transportation, etc. is paid individually and not included in tuition.
Requirements
- Digital Camera with a wide angle lens (preferably prime 28mm or 35mm) and the knowledge of how to use it. Unless you are shooting Leica, Jonathan may not know how to make necessary adjustments.
- Enough batteries and SD card space for 500-1,500 photos daily
- Laptop with Lightroom or other photo management / editing software that will allow you to quickly review, flag, and rate photos daily
- Walking shoes. These are intensive days where 15 - 20,000 steps is not unusual.
- Positive attitude with great respect for Turkish culture and the people of Istanbul.
Cost
Workshop tuition is $1150*, which includes workshop tuition only. Taxis, Meals, drinks, train tickets and any other incurred costs are not included and to be paid individually. All of these costs should be fairly low as food and transportation is very affordable based on how Jonathan has designed this workshop.
*All workshop participants receive $100 discount on any future workshops they attend with Jonathan (co-sponsored workshops or workshops with other instructors excluded).
Application
Contact Jonathan directly to apply for the workshop. If a spot is available, a $100 deposit is due within 7 days in order to secure your participation. The remaining $1050 is due the week prior to the workshop anytime prior to the welcome dinner. Past participants of Jonathan's workshops receive a $100 discount on this tuition.
Cancellation
Life happens. If you need to cancel, you will receive your workshop fee back, minus the $100 deposit and any fees (paypal, etc.). If Jonathan Jasberg (the instructor) needs to cancel, you will be refunded your deposit and tuition amount paid. Jonathan is not responsible for any reimbursement of travel expenses or any other costs incurred by participants in the event that he needs to cancel the workshop. Travel insurance that covers cancellations, missed flights, etc., is recommended if you are not a seasoned traveler. There are no partial refunds in the event a participant misses or would like to take time off on any days during the workshop.
Terms
Jonathan Jasberg accepts no liability for any injury, illness, death, or liability for any theft, loss or damage of participants’ equipment or personal items during the course of this workshop. Public liability of each participant is their own responsibility as is conducting themselves safely and according to local law at all times. Please act respectfully at all times as we are guests first, photographers second. By enrolling in this workshop you are agreeing to abide by these terms.
